In Taking Australian Farming to the World: NFF Thanks Mark Vaile and Welcomes Minister Truss

National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) President David Crombie has thanked Deputy Prime Minister The Hon. Mark Vaile MP on behalf of all Australian farmers for his tireless efforts to open markets for Australian farmers during his seven years in the trade portfolio.
“Mr Vaile was unwavering in his pursuit of an ambitious and pragmatic trade policy agenda throughout his time as Trade Minister, which did in fact deliver new export opportunities for Australian farmers,” Mr Crombie said.
“Under his leadership Australia punched above its weight as a central player in multilateral trade negotiations at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), while at the same time pursued an astute, pragmatic bilateral trade negotiating agenda.
“Trade deals with the United States, Thailand and Singapore will all deliver long-term benefits to Australian farmers. While the current negotiations he launched with China, Malaysia and ASEAN/New Zealand all have the potential to deliver improved market access for Australian agricultural exporters to these important, growing markets.
“NFF is particularly grateful for the work Mr Vaile has done as Chairman of the Cairns Group of agricultural trading nations. Throughout, he ensured Australia maintained its status as a central player in the WTO Doha Round ensuring that our interests were always taken into account.
“NFF also congratulates The Hon. Warren Truss MP on his appointment to the Trade Portfolio. We look forward to working constructively with Minister Truss on the important work ahead.”
