Growing chicken meat sector joins NFF

The ACGC represents contract chicken meat and turkey growers at a national level. The Council consists of members of the six state grower organisations.
NFF President Fiona Simson said the issues chicken growers faced were common to many farmers and it made sense for their interests to be well represented in NFF’s policy and advocacy efforts.
“As Australian farming’s peak representative body, it is our role to represent all farmers.
“Having ACGC join the NFF, means we can get a more informed understanding of the challenges and opportunities before chicken growers and, as a result, be better able to advocate in their interests.”
ACGC President James Mifsud, a grower from Goulburn, New South Wales said the sector was experiencing unprecedented growth.
“Each year production and demand for chicken meat is growing by up to three per cent.”
Mr Mifsud said to make the most of the opportunities before it, the sector needed a strong voice in Canberra.
“As is the case for all farmers, remaining competitive is the key to our long-term success.
“To be competitive we need investment in infrastructure including road and telecommunications, a tax and regulatory system that supports growers and a fair return for what we produce.
“The ACGC’s membership of NFF will ensure our sector’s interests are drawn to the attention of our federal politicians and our needs considered in Government decisions.”
Ms Simson said the NFF looked forward to welcoming ACGC representatives to the Federation’s policy development committees and to the NFF’s Member Council forum.
The ACGC joins NFF’s 30-strong member group. NFF members consist of commodity groups and state farming organisations.
