Australian Parliament Farmers Market

Members of the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) joined the Parliamentary Friends of Primary Producers to celebrate the nation’s high-quality food and fibre at Parliament House in Canberra today.
A vast array of seasonal produce, seedlings and fibre garments were showcased in the courtyards of Parliament House, where NFF CEO Simon Talbot spoke to key politicians and stakeholders about agriculture’s vital contribution to modern Australia.
“Today we celebrate the enormous contribution Australian agriculture makes to the economy; its quality, diversity and deep roots in both regional and metropolitan communities,” Mr Talbot said.
“From paddock to plate, field to fashion, Australian farmers work around the clock to feed and clothe families, both in Australia and overseas.
“The opportunities for Australian agriculture have rarely been brighter, with growing demand for Australian produce around the world and new technology offering to transform the way we work.
“Today is all about creating an environment for our key decision makers and members of the media to discover more about growing food and fibre, the people who make it happen and how decisions in Canberra can influence their capacity to produce,” Mr Talbot said.
The NFF acknowledges the support of the many NFF members who helped bring the Australian Parliament Farmers’ Market to Canberra and gives particular thanks to the Co-convenors of the Parliamentary Friends of Primary Producers, the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP and Nola Marino MP, together with GrainGrowers Limited, for assisting with the organisation of this event.
