Farmers welcome launch of Salvos Rural Appeal
3 February 2015
The Salvation Army this week launched the Salvos Rural Appeal, an initiative which offers practical and emotional support to farmers and families in need.
Brent Finlay, President of the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF), thanked The Salvation Army for its work in support of rural communities.
“One of the great things about Australia is that Australians are there for each other when times are tough,” Mr Finlay said.
“Farmers are a pretty self-reliant lot; but, like everybody else, we need the occasional helping hand.
“Droughts are cruel things. They can strike anywhere, and when they do, the effects can be devastating.
“It helps farmers and their families to know that people far away, with concerns of their own, care about people on the land.
“We are very grateful for the work The Salvation Army has done and continues to do, in support of people in crisis in rural areas.”
